Family day care is government approved care that occurs in the home of an Educator registered with a licensed family day care scheme, such as Amana Family Day Care Scheme.

Family Day Care Educators can care for up to four (4) children under school age (including any of their own under school age children) with a maximum of seven (7) children in care (including school aged children).  At this time the Educators own school aged children are not included in this number.  They will be included in the number of children in care from the beginning of 2016.

Educators are supported in their care environment by a team of coordinators and monitored through a system of home visits, email & phone contact and ongoing professional development opportunities.

Family Day Care Educators offer children in their care a small group environment incorporating a range of activities and experiences which are designed to foster the individual development and interests of each child in their care.

One of the key differences between family day care and other forms of child care is our ability to accommodate a range of child care needs.  Family day care offers full time care, part-time care, before and or after school care, vacation care for school aged children during school holidays, evening hours and sometimes overnight or weekend care.  This makes family day care a flexible child care option and can be suitable for parents/carers whose hours are irregular, such as shift workers.
